I read Watchmen a long time after I had my mind blown by the movies and books that ripped it off, so I don’t really worship the original comic like other fans do. But I think it will make most fans happy: it sounds like it’s going to be on par with Sin City, an adaptation that so obsessed itself with being accurate to the source material that it placed high priority on mimicry of visual style, composition and dialogue. Which is totally okay; I thought Sin City was very entertaining. The problem is that when your predominant focus is to act as a moving facsimile of the comic book, you forget that you need to make a good film in the process.
