HYPOTHETICAL QUESTION: How long until it is commonplace to own a television capable of 4K resolution? (4K is four times the resolution of 1080p, and is said by some experts to be the native resolution of 35mm film.)
I personally give it forty years: three decades to develop the tech and drive down the cost of 4K TVs low enough to spur mass adoption, and another ten years for studios to agree on a standard for the 4K video to be delivered in. (The Blu-ray disc was announced in 2002, but has only become a standard in the past few years.) What’s your opinion? Are there other factors I’m overlooking which play a part in the long-term adoption of emergent technologies?
