So Microsoft’s new search engine Bing was announced today, and will be rolling out over the next couple of days. In its press release, MSFT says that Bing “helps [consumers] make better decisions”, which would seem to put it in direct competition with Hunch: another decision-based search engine from the co-founder of Flickr, currently in private beta. (I still have those 5 invites, if anyone wants one.)
Of course, Bing is intended as a Google competitor. But it will be interesting to see which service wins in the area of decision-based search. I would put my money on Hunch right now just because MSFT has had such a bad track record on the Web, but Live.com currently commands around 8% marketshare while Hunch has nothing - we’ll see.
