“We found a great rhythm. Contractions started kicking in. I sat there with her, right between her legs. We got tribal on it, we danced to it! I was DJ-ing this Brazilian music.” —Matthew McConaughey on his child’s birth

differences between bar harbor and greater boston

reblogging myself from november 07:

“stronger” (the popular song by kanye west) is usually taken in bar harbor to be about what the lyrics say it is about: the joys of partying and self-aggrandizement in spite of the lack of winning any awards for music videos. however, in boston, this literal interpretation is jettisoned in favor of a perverted ode to Gibsonian 21st-century urban debauchery and decay.

Wipe My Butt [feat. The Shins] - Tim And Eric Awesome Show (Great Job!)

Got the soundtrack to this show the other day - I’m sad the rock version of Time Travel didn’t make it on there, but this cover of a Season 2 throwaway made me smile, if only due to how much it differs from the original.

Amazing video research. → motionographer.com

A bunch of algorithms used to apply photographic quality to consumer video have practical applications ranging from merely upping the video’s resolution to seamlessly replacing pictures in picture frames and removing objects from a video clip.

My Year In Lists - Los Campesinos!

I’ve been noticing more and more that the songs that put me in a good mood are the ones with the incredibly depressing lyrics I never actually paid close attention to. My Year In Lists is an upbeat song and Los Campesinos! is pretty much adorable (proof: this video), but what they’re actually singing is pretty heartbreaking - it basically deals with the challenges of sustaining a relationship through postal mail.

“I Wanna Hold Your Hand. First single. Fucking brilliant. Perhaps the most fucking brilliant song ever written. Because they nailed it. That’s what everyone wants. Not 24-7 hot wet sex. Not a marriage that lasts a hundred years. Not a Porsche or a blow job or a million-dollar crib. No. They wanna hold your hand. They have such a feeling that they can’t hide. Every single successful love song of the past fifty years can be traced back to ‘I Wanna Hold Your Hand.’ And every single successful love story has those unbearable and unbearably exciting moments of hand-holding. Trust me. I’ve thought a lot about this.” —David Levithan & Rachel Cohn, Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist (via into)

Hero [Mixtape Version] - Nas

Oh hey!

So I was pretty disappointed when I discovered the music video for Nas’ first single off Untitled was horrible, mostly due to the fact that I’ve been listening to the version on his most recent mixtape (The N*gger Tape) on repeat. It’s a lot better than the album cut.

Modern Guilt - Beck

Beck’s new album comes out tomorrow - it’s co-produced by Danger Mouse and it’s much better than you think. This is the album’s title track.

99 Problems / Back In Black - Jay-Z

If you haven’t heard about Mr. Carter’s ridiculously amazing set at Glastonbury a few nights ago, check that shit out - whether it be through watching it on YouTube or by downloading the audio. The selection above was second on the setlist - a version of “99 Problems” with some nice guitar instrumentals taken from AC/DC’s “Back In Black”.

“I really don’t understand how I came to live in a country where these two are supported at all by the media. I know, the jig is up, I was once a part of the machine that brought them to prominence, but I never thought they would take their psuedo-fame all the way to the pulpit level. I actually talked to H’s mom once (all part of the gig) and she gave this great detail about how even as a little girl, H would walk around the house holding wine glasses just to feel what it was like, just to taste the veneer of being an adult. The sad thing is, little ones have been doing that for ages with their mom’s shoes, but they didn’t always have to do it in front of a national audience. Right? It’s sad. It’s so easy now to try on new noses and identities and levels of fame (and now, philanthropy) for the world to see, but it is also easy to tell that despite what these people say, they haven’t grown into any of it. We are a culture that venerates the carrying around of empty glasses and trying not to break them. I’m aware that this is a well-broached subject among my peers, and in this city those two are the brunt of all jokes (none of them positive), but my trip back to flyover country last week reminded me that there are still kids that will be altered, seriously, by these two becoming famous. I’m not sure how that will turn out in the end—maybe the youth will revolt and demand better icons, or just better targets for cultural potshots. This is like fish in a barrel and it is no longer fun.” —rach on Heidi Montag/Spencer Pratt

Dinner Time - The Cool Kids

“That’s Stupid” is an all-new mixtape by the duo from Chicago. It’s hosted by a vaguely annoying radio DJ but has a couple of good tracks that make it worth downloading - Dinner Time is Track 3. Get it here.
